LA CABUYA CUENTA

Juan Camacho & Sonia Navarro

Since 2011, Don Juan and Doña Sonia have dedicated themselves to the craft of cabuya, transforming each fiber into pieces full of history, dedication, and meaning. Their work reflects a deep connection with Costa Rican traditions, where every detail matters and every step of the process is essential. More than creating objects, they bring to life a lasting legacy, turning the simple into something significant and timeless.

GONZALEZ DELGADO FAMILY

Boruca Community

Our relationship with Doña Ilda and her family— began with the intention of learning, getting to know each other, and listening to each other. Every time we sit down to talk, they bring with them wisdom, love, and good humor.—I learn from their patience, their way of looking at the land, and their respect for nature's rhythms.

NGUMU DIRÍ & GUAITIL CUDEG

Chorotega Community

Hand in hand with Don Andy Campos, Doña Eugenia and Doña Regina Mendoza, I have had the opportunity to hear the stories behind a craft that honors the legacy of a community. Don Andy walks 25 km into the mountains to find the clay and colors for his ceramic pieces; while on the other hand, Doña Eugenia & Doña Regina tell me that the "curioles" (mineral pigments) are silently sought in the river; otherwise, the "curiol" hides.
